In fact, the WebSphere brand includes a number of products. IBM WebSphere Portal is a label for a set of offerings in the portal market. Web Sphere
WebSphere is the platform used for today's e-business applications. It is the Java based tool from IBM. It is an application server that runs business applications and supports the J2EE and web service standards. It allows customers to create and manage sophisticated business Web sites. The tool used is the WebSphere Application Server (WAS), an application server that a customer can use to connect Web site users with Java applications or servlets. WebSphere Application Server(WAS) represents a set of application server offerings each having its own specific capabilities and functions. WAS, a software application server, is the flagship product within IBM's WebSphere brand. WAS is build using open standards such as Java EE, XML and Web Services. It is supported on the following platforms: Windows, AIX, Linux, Solaris, i/OS and z/OS.
